The
NaPoWriMo challenge for day six involves incorporating an oxymoron using the
Serendipitous Oxymoron Maker. I decided that I would use the results from the tool as the title for today's poem.
Putrid MiracleNever was there a thought that freedom would be such bliss. But now on the precipice of renewal, I look toward my own salvation
Between pillowcase and sheets
Sleeping alone once again--But I embrace it - never once was there a question
That I wanted to reach out
To help peopleTo lift others to greatness
And it is here, in this putrid miracleRising out of blissful heartacheThat I can say we are never aloneWe always walk with Him by our sideThe sacrifice He made so that we may continueWhere others might fall into a chasm
Where others might trip over their own steps
I breathe
Once again
I breathe in myself, my life, my faith
There are many types of death -
Philosophical death
Spiritual death
Relationship death
Physical death
And with many, we are reborn
Ascending like butterflies from cocoons
Into the sky -
Not gone, but rather
Changed
Still us, but us in a different form
And it is here
On the line between old and new
That we are both who we were and who we will become
Even for a short moment
The Poetic Asides PAD day six challenge asks participants to write a poem with a title that follows the pattern "Don't blank, blank."
Don't Laugh, Cry
When you see the child sitting in the doorway's shade,
Don't laugh, cry.
When you see the unkempt man on the corner,
Don't laugh, cry.
When you see the blind woman crossing the street,
Don't laugh, cry.
When you see the pregnant teenager shedding a tear,
Don't laugh, cry.
Feed the hungry
Help the poor
Guide the blind
Hug the suffering
Anyone can laugh at someone else's pain
Anyone can laugh at someone else's struggles
Anyone can laugh at someone else's experience
Because it keeps at bay the pain
We all feel inside
Because it keeps at bay the uncertainty
We all find ourselves fearing
Because it keeps at bay the humanity
We all ignore
At times...
Don't turn away from the child in the doorway
Don't turn away from the unkempt man
Don't turn away from the blind woman
Don't turn away from the pregnant teenager.
Don't laugh,
cry.
